Not your typical CDM. Carrick is a good playmaker, interceter and a midfielder that always stays in midfield (hardly goes into attack). Which is good because you don't want your midifield to be too empty when you are on the attack.
If you use him, get him a good CDM to cover his back, and a box-to-box or CAM for more creative interactions. You got your stabilizer of the midfield.
If you are planning to get him I recommend getting a +5 version or higher. Upgrades make him better. If you want to boost him with growth the best thing will be either acceleration or agression (I personaly prefer first) depending on your staff.
